Early life
Career
Shashank made his debut as a director with the film Sixer. He also wrote the script and screenplay. Sixer was also the debut movie of the actor Prajwal Devraj, son of respected Kannada actor Devraj. The film revolved around a cricket crazy youngster who is forced to work for a gangster for the money he needs for the training camp. The film opened to mixed reviews. While Shashank and Prajwal drew good reviews for their direction and acting respectively, Shashank was criticized for a slack screenplay. Shashank was well praised for his efforts by the movie circles, and emerged as a promising young director.
He picked up a plum project for the producer E Krishnappa who was fresh off the tremendous success of Mungaaru Male. Shashank chose a slightly offbeat theme of the lives of four teenaged girls for this film, which was called Moggina Manasu. He cast newcomers to the lead roles, only Shubha Poonja had any previous movie experience. The film had issues with the censor board for it's content, but when it finally opened in July 2008, it drew rave reviews critically and propelled Shashank to the big league. The film was a commercial success as well.
Shashank is now committed to direct two films in 2009. The first one is for Gangadhar, the executive producer of EK Entertainment who will be turning producer with this film. It will have the actor Deepak (Bacchan of Aa Dinagalu) in the lead role. The film is an out and out action flick, with shades of KFI's favorite subject, the underworld. This film is expected to go on floors in January 2009. The second film is for producer Chandrashekhar (producer of the Puneet-starrer Bindaas). Not much is disclosed about this project, except that Ganesh will be playing the lead.
