Early Life
Sharmila has a film background. Her family has a fair number of producers and distributors. The family also once owned the Sangam theater in Bangalore. Sharmila was a successful model before she entered the movie industry, she has also equipped herself with an acting course in London.
Career
Sharmila debuted with the 2007 film Sajni opposite Dhyan. The film was a family affair for Sharmila, being produced by her sister under their home banner. The film did fairly well, but Sharmila was noticed as an actress to be encouraged. She was later seen sharing screen time with fellow actress Pooja Gandhi in the film Krishna. She was paired opposite Ganesh this time. The film was a box office success and Sharmila's turn as a simple village girl, a complete opposite to her glamourous Sajni role was appreciated. She also took on a cameo in the film Ee Bandhana in which she played the role of granddaughter to Dr Vishnuvardhan and Jayaprada.
In 2008, Sharmila was seen as a scheming con-woman in Dinakar Toogudeepa's heist flick Navagraha. The role was nothing much to write home about, but the film itself was a much awaited release. Accordingly it did fairly well at the box office. Sharmila was also one of the twelve heroines in the item number with Upendra in the year end comedy Mast Maja Madi. Sharmila will be seen in the beginning of 2009 with a glamourous role against Shri Murali in the film Shivamani. She is also teamed with Ramesh Arvind in Venkata in Sankata, the film will also be directed by Ramesh.
