Ramu is a Kannada producer and distributor. He has thus far produced 25 films under his Ramu Enterprises banner, 23 of which have been released. His 24th film is the Prajwal Devraj starrer Gulaama. Ramu is fondly called Koti Ramu for his penchant for producing lavish action films. He is married to actress Malashri.

Career
Ramu stepped into the Kannada film industry as an assistant distributor. He then moved on to distributing films himself. He started producing Kannada films with the action film Golibaar starring the actor Devraj in 1993. The film was a hit, and Ramu continued his tradition of making action films with lavish production values with notable films like Lock Up Death (1994), Circle Inspector (1996). He also made sentimental films with his future wife Malashri like Muthinanta Hendti (1995). When she later turned towards action films, Ramu supported her by producing Lady Commissioner (1997) and later, Chamundi (2000) & Durgi (2004). In 1998, Ramu teamed up with noted action film director Omprakash Rao and actor Shiv Rajkumar for a second time (he made Simhada Mari with the same team earlier) for the most noted film in his career AK 47. The film was a runaway hit, strengthening the careers of the trio.
Ramu took to producing an ambitious venture Hollywood in 2002 with Upendra in the lead, the film was to be shot extensively in US and Australia and was supposed to be a science fiction film, probably Kannada's first. However, the film fell into various problems, the heroine walked out of the film, the script of the film changed midway from science fiction to comedy, the director was changed mid way through the film. Ramu suffered a loss as the film bombed at the box office. Controversies besieged Ramu as he announced a doomed film Shakuni with Ravi Chandran, booked Nagma and Juhi Chawla, two top actresses at the time. He spent lavishly on the film, and shelved it mid-way when it was half made. He later made Malla with Ravi Chandran which was a commercial success.
He later produced films with actors like Sudeep - Kiccha (2003), Gooli (2008) which did favorably commercially and Darshan - Kalasipalya (2004) which was a huge success. His later films with Shiv Rajkumar - Raakshasa (2004) and Upendra - Auto Shankar (2005), Masti (2007) did not do as well as could be expected. Ramu is currently involved in producing another action film with his wife Malashri called Kiran Bedi IPS. The film has completed filming, and will be releasing in 2009. Before this, Ramu has Gulaama with young Prajwal Devraj which is the first movie scheduled to release in 2009.
