Early Life
Sameer, a Gujarati by birth, was a model before he started his acting career. He was the face of Head and Shoulders shampoo, and had appeared in a number of music videos directed by Rajshri Films. He also did a course in acting at the Kishore Namit Kapoor school of acting. Dhyan is his name for the Kannada film industry.
Career
Dhyan was introduced to the movie industry by Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar in 2000 with the film Nanna Preetiya Hudugi. Dhyan was 17. Nagathihalli had got to know of Dhyan via his music videos and a contact with Rajshri Films. Nanna Preetiya Hudugi was a story of a young scholarship student who falls in love with a girl from the US, Dhyan fit the part like a glove. The film was a hit. However, Dhyan did not appear in any film until 4 years later when his first Hindi film, a Rajshri film called Uuf Kya Jaadoo Mohobbat Hai hit the screens. The film was a commercial and critical failure. He then returned to the Kannada movie industry with Indrajit Lankesh's Mona Lisa opposite Sada. This film fared slightly better than his Hindi debut, and Dhyan was besieged with offers.
In 2005 and 2006, he appeared in 3 Kannada films. Nagathihalli repeated him for Amrutadhaare opposite Ramya. Dhyan was criticized for sloppy acting, but the movie remains his biggest hit to date. He also took on lead roles in Jootata and Jackpot both of which crashed at the box office. Dhyan took a sabbatical to act in Hindi, and returned back with the film Sajni in 2007. This too did not do well at the box office. In 2008, Dhyan played a techie in the marital drama Neene Neene opposite debutant Aishwarya Nag. The film sank, and Dhyan was criticized yet again for turning in a bland performance. He remains busy though, he will next be seen in the film Sihi Muttu alongside Premkumar and in O Manase with once classmate Jennifer Kotwal.
